Membership

…a rich history

“For years, membership and attendance at the Midwest MLA meetings have been vital continuing education… and have provided an opportunity to get to know the many nationally valued members of the chapter and occasionally call upon them or offer them specific assistance.”
Nathan Eakin, Reference and Special Collections Associate, Gaylord Music Library, Washington University, St. Louis, MO, 1962-2000

“I’d like to say … how much being a member of the midwest Chapter and the national group, learning from my friends in the neighboring states, how we interchanged information, has meant so much through all these years. It’s been a great boost. I would observe what they were doing in their libraries, and … they would come and see what I was doing in my library. The exchange has been just invaluable.”
Marion Korda, Music Librarian at University of Louisville School of Music, 1947-1988

“Membership in the MLA Midwest Chapter helped me take my first steps as a music librarian; now it is one of the things that sustains me.”
Leslie Troutman, Music Librarian, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL, 1987-2003

…a vital role today

“One of the many reasons I love being a music librarian is the chance to be a part of MLA’s Midwest Chapter. As an organization, it brings out the very best in all of us as individuals. I have always felt welcomed and “lifted up” by my friends and colleagues in the Midwest Chapter – people doing serious and important work with a sense of joy, commitment, generosity, fairness, and fun.”
Beth Christensen, Music Librarian, Halvorson Music Library, St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN

“Since my first MLA Midwest Chapter meeting in 1988, I’ve relied on our chapter meetings to keep me apprised of development in the Midwest, to build and nurture personal and professional contacts to inform my work and life, and to get an on-the-ground perspective on new products, new practices, and new answers to the eternal questions we face as music librarians.”
Mark Scharff, Music Cataloger, Washington University in St. Louis

Annual chapter dues are processed simultaneously with national dues through the Music Library Association website.
Note: you will need your MLA site login!

If you belong to a chapter only, and you are a first-time user of this payment site, you will be asked to create a free user profile. (You are not joining the national MLA when you do this.)

If you are a national MLA member, a chapter-only member who has used this site, or a past MLA/MOUG conference attendee, then you already have a profile with a login/password. You will be prompted to sign in when you click below.
(Please do not start a second user profile!)

Instructions for Chapter-Only Members who are First-Time Users of This System

Go to the MLA site and click Join.

On the Join page, select Chapter Member Only (near the bottom of the page), then click Continue. (If you wish to join as a national member, click another category instead, and later you will be given the option to also select a chapter.)

On the next few pages (scrolling down, and clicking Continue as needed), create a username, select your desired chapter membership, and finish your user profile. Remember the login for future use.

On the final page, confirm membership type, rate, add any donations, select a chapter (if you were joining at the national level), finish payment information, and Submit.

This will set up your user profile AND it will enroll you as a chapter member. Next year, use the instructions below.

Instructions for those who have an MLA Site Profile

(for MLA members and chapter-only members with existing logins)

You have two options. Either way, please log into your existing user profile first. Do not create a new profile!

Option One: Pay for MLA and Midwest Chapter memberships in one transaction
(You can also renew a chapter-only membership here. Just select MLA “non-member,” plus the chapter.)

Option Two: Pay for a Midwest Chapter membership alone (separately from your national MLA membership, or without any national membership).

Contact the MLA Business Office if you have questions or if you forgot your password.
Please do not create a new profile if you already have one!
